100Glight 400G Optical Modules Empower North American Cloud Provider’s Leaf-Spine Architecture Upgrade Client Background

A leading North American cloud service provider operates several hyper-scale data centers, delivering IaaS, PaaS, and object storage services globally. Driven by surging demand for AI inference, real-time video processing, and massive unstructured data storage, its traditional 100G leaf-spine network faced bottlenecks, insufficient rack density, and rising operational costs. The customer required highly compatible, low-latency, low-power 400G optical interconnect solutions to achieve a non-blocking architecture upgrade while ensuring full compatibility with mainstream switches and servers.

Core Challenges

  1. 100G ports could not support concurrent traffic from dozens of GPU servers per rack, causing frequent network congestion and unstable latency.
  2. High power consumption of traditional optical modules raised PUE concerns and increased cooling and power costs.
  3. DCI interconnection across data centers ranged from 10km to 40km, requiring a unified module platform to simplify inventory and maintenance.
  4. Tight project timeline demanded sample validation, bulk delivery, and trial operation within 7 days.

100Glight Solution

100Glight provided an end-to-end 400G optical interconnect solution with core components:

  • 400G QSFP-DD DR4 optical transceiver (500m, for intra-data center leaf-spine connections)
  • 400G QSFP-DD FR4 optical transceiver (2km, for intra-facility inter-rack links)
  • 400G QSFP-DD LR4 optical transceiver (10km, for metro DCI backbone links)All modules comply with IEC, MSA, FEC standards, support hot-pluggable and DDM (Digital Diagnostic Monitoring). Typical power consumption is controlled within 3.5W≈18% lower than industry average.

Deployment & Implementation

100Glight technical team collaborated with the customer’s network engineers using a phased, gray-scale deployment strategy. Validation was completed in a single cluster before full data center rollout. The solution achieved zero downtime migration without modifying cabling or rack layout. Over 3,200 ports were deployed and fully tested in just 5 business days. 100Glight provided 7×24 remote support, compatibility matrices, and batch configuration templates to simplify deployment.

Project Results

  • Network bandwidth upgraded from 100G to 400G, overall throughput increased 4×, with sub-millisecond stable latency.
  • Rack server access density improved 3×, data center space utilization optimized by 60%.
  • Single-port power consumption reduced by 18%, cutting annual power and cooling costs by 22%, significantly optimizing TCO.
  • Stable operation for over 9 months, zero failures, zero packet loss, zero compatibility issues.

Client Testimonial
